Embracing My Curl

Posted by Alexandra Evjen on March 6, 2010 | No Comments

I have naturally curly, fine, unruly hair. My mom has straight hair and doesn’t know the first thing about managing frizz and volume, so most of my life I’ve tried to brush out my curls, straighten, smooth and hide my crazy hair.

It wasn’t until I met my old roommate, Emma, who has hair like mine did I see that my locks could be tamed. However, even after watching her go through her beauty routine and trying her hair products, I couldn’t get the hang of it.

For some reason, in these past couple of weeks I have just decided to embrace my curly hair for what it is and attempt to bring out the best in it. I’m happy to report that I now love my hair and find getting ready in the morning much, MUCH easier. I owe my embrace to a couple of products…

M.A.C. Zoom Lash Mascara

Posted by Alexandra Evjen on March 4, 2010 | No Comments

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I ventured out of my comfort zone and tried CoverGirl Lashblast Length Mascara and was horribly disappointed. This left me needing a new mascara, and since I’ve been enjoying MAC’s Paint Pots, I decided to try MAC Zoom Lash Mascara.

To sum up my feelings about it…

M.A.C. Paint Pot

Posted by Alexandra Evjen on February 26, 2010 | 1 Comment

A while ago I did a beauty product review of the M.A.C. Shadestick, and I have been an evangelist for that product since I tried it. Well, I decided to forgo the Shadestick this time and give the Paint Pot a whirl.

It’s the same product as the stick but you use either your finger or a brush to apply it. Well, ladies, the pot has won me over. Why?….

Lip Gloss

Posted by Alexandra Evjen on February 5, 2010 | No Comments

I mentioned at the beginning of the year that bright lips are going to be BIG this season. I’m not necessarily speaking of red lips – more like pinks and purples. Many beauty blogs and style magazines are saying its the return of the lipstick. I, however, cannot stand lipstick. It’s mainly the taste and its ability to always land on my teeth. My solutions…

Beauty confession – Until recently, I only used hairspray to keep flyaways under control when my hair was in a ponytail. Plus, I’ve had the same can of hairspray for the past two years.

As of two days ago, I finally took the advice of many hairstylists and beauty columns by spraying sections of my hair before curling it. Wow, all I have to say is I’m addicted.

I Smell Memories

Posted by Alexandra Evjen on December 16, 2009 | 1 Comment

img-thingMy number one Christmas gift this year is Narciso Rodriguez perfume “Her.” I’ve wanted this scent for about two years, and finally feel like I have found my signature scent – although I’m sure something else will come along the way in the future.

For many people, our olfactory sense brings out specific memories or faces. I’ve gone through many perfumes, and so whenever I smell certain ones I am reminded of seasons in my life. Though the list isn’t that long, occasionally I’ll come across a scent that reminds me of a person. On my wedding day, I gave Ryan a Calvin Klein cologne, and now my wedding day is marked with a specific smell. I LOVE that! (Click to keep reading).
