I’m not a big fan of velvet, honestly. As a fashion lover I should never rule out any fabric or item because things have a way of coming back in style.
To me, velvet reminds me of junior high when I had a dress code of red, black and white, and all I could find during the winter time were these red and black velvet, short-sleeved shirts (short-sleeved in winter time only Houston or Phoenix). I wore them every week – imprisoned in the fabric. haha.
I don’t mind seeing velvet used as an accent to a garment or accessory, however. Here are some items that I really enjoy!

I’m madly in love with the costume design on the hit AMC drama, Mad Men. From circle skirts, capris, pencil skirts and dresses made out of brocade, the women on this show look so beautiful and classic! I have to say the men do as well, but I’m not much of an expert on men’s fashion.
Check out some items I’ve found that remind me of the show.

Piping on jackets, dresses, bags and shoes is such a great, eye-catching detail. To me, I think it gives a garment the appearance of being more structured. I’m really in love with this J.Crew blazer! Check out some more items I’ve found…

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, so there’s a chance that you could be headed to a costume party. I haven’t received an invite yet, but I thought I’d create a couple of easy costume ideas that incorporated fashion trends such as leather, leggings, plaid, fur, boots, boy friend jeans, etc. Here’s what I came up with…

Over sized “cat eye” sunglasses have made there way onto the scene. I suppose it’s a natural progression from aviators and classic Ray Bans. I just found a really great pair for $12.99 at Target (can’t find them online). Here are some I found on Polyvore.com…

I’m seeing a lot of celebrities these days wearing long-sleeved mini dresses, and I’m liking this look. I think it’s a chic way of looking sexy and I prefer this to loads of cleavage. Even if you don’t have long legs you can still pull this look off. Just add some nude pumps to your dress, which gives the illusion of longer legs and some height if you need it.

I remember being a kid and loving anything that sparkled. Then I learned that sequins were tacky after the early 90’s ended and we haven’t really seen them come back without that stigma until now. Add some glitter to your closet this fall with some sequined shoes, dress or top. I promise, it won’t be considered tacky.

Bring your floral, summer dresses and skirts into fall by pairing them with cardigans, jackets, tights and booties. Add color to the ordinary fall colors of brown, black, purple and navy and avoid having to put more clothes into storage. Here are some of my pairings…

So, I think I’m obsessed with blazers. They are a simple staple in your wardrobe because they can be worn any time of year, you can find them in any color, they can be very slimming and yet very professional. I created a couple of different looks with two different types of blazers. Check it out…
